Nutrition

  • Dairy Deets. This protein-rich dish can be enjoyed as a dessert or nutrient-rich snack anytime. The feature ingredient is yogurt. Aside from being an excellent source of protein, it's also rich in calcium – and this brand contains Bifidobacterium as part of the bacterial culture. A recent study found that long-term dietary calcium intake of 300 milligrams per day could strongly protect against cancer – specifically colorectal cancer. Additionally - although much more research is needed to confirm this finding – long-term yogurt intake of 2 or more servings per week could protect against a specific subtype of colorectal cancer. This protective effect may be due to the beneficial changes to the gut microbiome. So, let's enjoy some yogurt!!
  • Yogourt Yum. Yogourt is the most popular fermented dairy product. The fermentation process introduces friendly bacteria to the product and reduces the lactose load, making it easier to digest. This is helpful for people with lactose intolerance. Yogurt is also rich in protein, vitamins D and B12, and the minerals calcium and selenium - all of which contribute to a healthy diet.  Adding yogurt to a dessert or snack is an easy way to boost protein content. Just ½ cup provides 4 grams of protein. The protein content jumps to 10 grams if you opt for Greek yogourt.
  • Almond Butter Benefits. Almond butter is an excellent source of plant protein, fibre and healthier fats. Just 2 tablespoons contain 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of fibre, and 200 calories. Enjoy almond butter in small amounts, as part of a balanced diet. Choose healthier brands of almond butter that have few ingredients. In fact, only one ingredient is needed - almonds.
