Broth Benefits.
Diarrhea and vomiting can cause your body to lose water, nutrients, and essential minerals like potassium and sodium. Sodium and potassium are also known as electrolytes. This flavourful broth can be considered a homemade oral rehydration solution. It is rich in salt, potassium, and other minerals that help to replace lost fluids.
Keen on carrots.
Carrots are a
good source of beta carotene, an antioxidant linked to a reduced risk of certain cancers, including colon cancer. Carrots also contain a type of soluble fibre known as pectin and the mineral potassium. Potassium is one of the electrolytes easily lost with vomiting, diarrhea, and high ostomy output. Add some carrots to your grocery list today.
Kelp can help
. Kelp is a seaweed rich in minerals, trace elements, and antioxidants. Just 100 grams of raw kelp provides 45% of daily needs for folate and 29% of magnesium. It also contains sodium, an electrolyte lost through diarrhea, high ostomy output, and vomiting. Enjoy kelp in small amounts because it is high in iodine. Some iodine is helpful for thyroid function, but too much can be harmful.
